Farm History
On the 5th day of September Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and thirty six, Edmond Lipsey and Sarah his wife, transferred a parcel of land containing thirty three acres to Lewis B. Walker and Tamson H. Walker, his wife, in consideration for the sum of three hundred and forty Dollars.
This is the earliest known legal record of what would become Heritage Lane Farm.
Lewis & Tamson would reside on the farm and raise a family in the two story log house until their deaths in the 1st and 2nd months of 1892. The Walkers were Quakers and are buried in nearby Winona, Ohio. One hundred seventy eight years and eleven families later, the farm, now known as Heritage Lane Farm, is still in operation. Kevin and Sarah Swope chose the name “Heritage Lane Farm” as a symbol of the Christian, family and agricultural heritage that is the foundation of the United States of America.

Family History
Kevin and Sarah met at Hocking Technical College in the fall of 1988. Both had a love of the outdoors and an undiscovered love of agriculture.
Sarah’s family had a long history in Columbiana County that dates back into the early 1800’s. When she and Kevin were married in 1991 they moved to her family’s farm with a goal of starting a family and restoring the original log home that was located on the property. Sarah’s father passed away unexpectedly in 1992 leaving many decisions for Sarah’s mother, Sydney, as to the future of the farm. She offered Kevin and Sarah the opportunity to explore agricultural opportunities of their choosing. Three children, Caleb, Rebecca & Hannah, came along the way and as the farming operation took shape they were right there taking an active role in daily chores, gardening, construction projects, machinery repairs and the births of nearly every kind of farm animal possible. Heritage Lane Farm has offered everyone the opportunity to discover their God-given talents and to use those talents for the benefit of others. |
